An annual cultural event for children in East Asia* since 2001, aims to

  • Share the unique cultural and artistic traditions of East Asia
  • Promote international friendship and cooperation
  • Foster mutual understanding and respect through the exchange and performance of cultural arts

*East Asia includes People’s Republic of China (including Hong Kong SAR), Macau SAR, Japan, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea

HKESD has been invited by UNESCO China to form the Hong Kong delegation as part of the China team attending the Festival since 2008.

2010 UNESCO Children’s Performing Arts Festival of East Asia Macau

UNESCO Children’s Performing Arts Festival of East Asia was first held in Beijing in 2001 and Hong Kong was represented since 2008. The Festival aims to foster the exchange and appreciation of diverse cultural traditions in the East Asia region and to promote the culture of peace, especially among young people.

This year, 11 aged 9-15 students represented Hong Kong team with 2 performances in Macau, namely One World All for One and Dance to the Historical Development of Hong Kong.

2009 UNESCO Children’s Performing Arts Festival in East Asia (CPAF)

5 – 8 August 2009

The 2009 CPAF was held in Nara, Japan from 5 to 8 August 2009 and was co-organized by HKESD and Da Vinci Foundation in Hong Kong. A Hong Kong delegation comprised 15 persons including 8 students and 7 supporting staff attended the Festival. Students of Hong Kong performed Singing “From Japan’s Inspiration Singing”, a series of Cantonese Pop songs inspired by music of Japanese Pop songs in the 1980s and “Homage to Cantonese Pop”, a series of classical Cantonese Pop songs in 1970s-80s at the opening and closing ceremony respectively.

The 2010 CPAF will be held in Macau SAR.

2008 UNESCO Children’s Performing Arts Festival of East Asia (CPAF)

23-27 July 2008

The Festival, co-organized by UNESCO, the Korean National Commission for UNESCO and Gwangju Metropolitan City, was held in Gwangju, Korea. HKESD was invited by the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO to attend as part of the China team and representing Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The theme of the Festival was “Towards Peace and Harmony”. There were over 200 participants, including students, teachers, sponsors and public officials, coming from five countries and regions. Students from Queen Elizabeth School Old Students’ Association Primary School and Pak Kau College, from Tin Shui Wai, Hong Kong SAR performed at the Festival.
