Youth Delegates Propose Actionable Recommendations for Urban Innovation

On August 12 2025, the United Nations International Youth Day, the UNESCO Hong Kong Association (UHKA) is proud to present the “Youth Prospect on Smart and Sustainable Cities” (the “Youth Prospect”).

The Youth Prospect is a unique synergy and collective insight of secondary school students, university students and young working professionals to propose innovative solutions for local and global challenges. Drafted by young delegates from all around the globe who participated in the 2025 Secondary School Model UNESCO International Conference on Smart and Sustainable Cities, the resolution was summarised by UNESCO Hong Kong Association Green Citizens Youth Ambassadors, who took on chair committee roles in the conference, and officially published by the UNESCO Hong Kong Association.

The Youth Prospect comprises 14 operative clauses, in which 6 of them apply specifically to the Hong Kong-Greater Bay Area, highlighting our commitment to respond to the theme of this year’s International Youth Day – “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond. The Youth Prospect highlights a wide variety of cross-cutting topics related to smart and sustainable cities, including:

  • International Cooperation
  • Urban Planning & Development
  • Data Security & Cybersecurity
  • Education & Youth Empowerment
  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Cultural Heritage Preservation
  • Public-Private Partnerships

The Youth Prospect reflects the creativity and commitment of young leaders in addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time—building cities that are inclusive, resilient, and future-ready. Its publication amplifies youths voice and reinforces the UNESCO Hong Kong Association’s mission to empower youth in shaping a sustainable future. The UNESCO Hong Kong Association (UHKA) hopes that these recommendations will inspire meaningful action at local, national, and international levels.
