From November 20 to 23, the UNESCO Hong Kong youth delegation, comprising Green Citizens Youth Ambassadors, students, and teachers from its member school—The Chinese Foundation Secondary School—participated in the International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) 2025 in the Philippines.

This year’s Y4U conference is organised under the theme of “Strength in Action: Harnessing the Collective Power of Youth to Lead with a Heart, Purpose, and Integrity,” offering a valuable opportunity for youths and students to showcase Hong Kong youth’s talent on an international stage, create unforgettable experiences, enrich perspectives, and make valuable connections

Americana Chen, the Youth Affairs Coordinator of the UNESCO Hong Kong Association was invited for a keynote speech on “Empowering Communities for the UNSDGs and UNESCO’s initiatives”. she shared how the Green Citizens Youth Ambassadors initiative grew and extended its impact to the wider communities by taking a cross-disciplinary approach, connecting youth actions with corporates, the government, the public, and NGOs.

Dedicated to aligning our actions with UNESCO’s mission of cultural exchange, the Hong Kong youth delegation brought Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage snacks to share with the Philippines participants in the “One Town One Product” exhibition competition and performed singing and dancing. The exhibition and performances received overwhelmingly positive feedback from Filipino delegates, winning the most interactive award in the “One-Town-One-Product” competition.

The Hong Kong youth delegation also participated actively in various competitions, including poster making, essay writing, music video making, spoken word poetry, extemporaneous speech and quiz bowl.

Witnessing the youth delegates engage in profound cultural exchange has been a highlight, creating memories and forging bonds that we are confident will last a lifetime, building a foundation for future partnerships. To extend this initiative, the UNESCO Hong Kong Association also hopes to help bridge Hong Kong and Philippine schools for further exchange opportunities, enhancing the global connectedness of our member schools’ network.
