The UNESCO Hong Kong Association (UHKA) participated in the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2025 as the Hong Kong Regional Reporter, highlighting the sustainable development achievements of local enterprises and elevating their global impact. Professor Karen Cheung, President of UHKA and Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development (HiESD), attended the Summit alongside the Association's Youth Affairs Coordinator, Ms. Americana Chen.
Centring on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), the event explored the theme of "Smart and Sustainable Cities" through multiple perspectives including UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Cities, carbon neutrality and innovative energy solutions, civil engineering, urban planning, and local case studies from Hong Kong. The over 400 enthusiastic participants from around the globe joined the webinar, including students from Cambodia, China (Fujian, Guangzhou, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Shanghai, Shenyang, Shenzhen), India, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, United Kingdom, and Turkmenistan.
The conference attracted 43 secondary schools across Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. After the preliminary selection, 168 students played the role of representatives of 56 different countries’ delegations to discuss how artificial intelligence can be applied to have a positive impact on the future of education. Through debate and negotiation, students’ insights were collected and will be published in the “Youth Prospect on the Use of AI in Education in Hong Kong” to promote the realisation of Sustainable Development Goal 4—Quality Education.
2023/24學年第十二屆可持續發展教育學程計劃學生匯報及頒獎典禮於2024年3月16日順利舉辦。過去五個月學程中，150位來自20間中小學同學們全情投入參與工作坊、外訪研學、專題講座、學長指導等體驗式、項目製研學活動，並在今日展現了精彩的研學成果，在享受學習的過程中成為可持續發展未來小領袖。
教育的未來 自2021年，每年的9月28日為「香港聯合國教科文日」，香港聯合國教科文組織協會將在這一日與大家分享最新資訊，報告香港重要進展並展望未來。 2021年11月在聯合國教科文組織第41屆大會上面向全球發佈《一起重新構想我們的未來：為教育打造新的社會契約》報告（簡稱：報告）， 2022年9月6日報告中文版發佈，2022年9月16-19日聯合國教育變革峰會也以「变革教育，共建未来」主題。 因應報告的發佈，今年香港聯合國教科文日的主題為「教育的未來」，由香港聯合國教科文組織協會 執行會長兼秘書長、香港可持續發展教育學院 院長 張沁教授，帶領香港聯合國教科文組織協會綠色公民青年大使們，一同分享香港聲音與進展。 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbP-n38oPFk
