目的

In response to the United Nations Ocean Decade (2021-2030), as well as celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, UNESCO Hong Kong Association, Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development and the Hong Kong Children’s Arts and Cultural Exchange Association (HKCACEA) co-organised this project to bring ocean knowledge and understanding of the marine system, marine species, marine biodiversity to Hong Kong’s young generation through a creative and engaging process. The project also raises awareness for ocean conservation in Hong Kong through fundraising, using pottery creation from participating kindergarten students.

活动

1. Ocean Science Workshop
Date: May 21st 2022

The ocean science workshop aims to teach the participating children fundamental knowledge about the ocean system, including several well-known but endangered marine species in Hong Kong: Sea turtles, seahorses, Chinese white dolphins, and coral reefs. For each of the species, we introduced their characteristics, a few fun facts, the threats they are facing and individual actions that could be taken to save them from danger.
For example, we highlighted that many marine species are accidentally trapped by dumped fishing nets, or harmed by plastic pollution in the ocean. By showing the participating children cartoon and videos, we hope that the participants will be more aware of the impact of their daily activities on marine life and therefore take urgent actions to change their behaviours and protect our ocean. The workshop also aims to inspire the children with ideas for the creation of the potteries.

2. Oceanic Theme Pottery Creation

With tutorial videos provided by HKCACEA, the participating children crafted their oceanic pottery, showing us the ocean they want and the ocean they love.

3. Exhibition and online auction of Potteries
